How to Dry Brush Your Body: A Simple Guide
Dry brushing may look simple — and it is. But a few small details can make the ritual much more enjoyable.
Before the shower, on dry skin, with a few gentle strokes — that’s really all you need.
There’s no need to turn it into another complicated wellness routine. Think of dry brushing as a few quiet minutes to wake up your skin, reconnect with your body and slow down before stepping into the shower.
What is dry brushing?
Dry brushing is exactly what it sounds like: gently brushing dry skin with a body brush, without water, oils or lotions.
The brushing action helps remove loose surface skin cells, leaving the skin feeling smoother and softer. The massage itself can also feel pleasantly invigorating — especially as part of a morning routine.
Before or after the shower?
Before.
Use your body brush on completely dry skin before showering or bathing.
Afterwards, rinse away loosened skin cells in the shower and finish with your favourite body oil or moisturiser while the skin is still slightly damp.
Think:
Brush → Shower → Moisturise.
Simple.
How to dry brush your body
Start at your feet and gradually work upwards.
Use gentle, long strokes on the arms and legs, moving towards the torso. On larger areas such as the thighs, hips and abdomen, you can also use soft circular movements if they feel comfortable.
The most important rule? Don't scrub.
Dry brushing shouldn't hurt or leave your skin feeling raw. A light pressure is enough — especially when you're just starting.
Spend around 3–5 minutes on the whole body. You don't need a long routine to enjoy the ritual.
How often should you dry brush?
There is no need to do it every day.
For most people, a few times a week is plenty. If your skin is sensitive, start with once a week and see how it responds.
Your skin should feel refreshed afterwards, not irritated.
Areas to avoid
Don't dry brush over irritated, broken or sunburned skin, active rashes or other sensitive areas.
And remember: your face needs a much gentler approach than your body. A body brush should not be used on facial skin.
Make it a ritual, not another task
This might be our favourite part.
Dry brushing doesn't have to be something you rush through because it's on your self-care checklist.
Put your phone down. Take a few minutes before your shower. Brush slowly. Notice how your skin feels.
Then step into a warm shower and finish by massaging a little body oil into slightly damp skin.
Five minutes. Three simple steps. A small moment entirely for yourself.
The LAVELLAR ritual
1. BRUSH
Gently dry brush before showering.
2. SHOWER
Rinse and cleanse the skin.
3. NOURISH
Finish with body oil or moisturiser.
Because caring for your body doesn't need to be complicated to feel good.
Slow down. Brush gently. Let the ritual be enough.
